living water
felt marker, pastellarger imageDrawn during
the Gathering Lent service. There were several "stations", and one of them had a mini-fountain and glasses of water to drink, representing the life God gives us.
sorry if my sketches are churchy as of late, for anybody that is not into church stuff. Church seems to be my drawing place lately, and I haven't done much drawing at home.

flush...
felt markeranother exercise in observed drawing. not sure why i chose the bathroom as subject matter, but the toilet paper sure looks a lot more interesting.

paint, now with video! woot!
acrylic paint, inklarger imageThis is a painting I started in December on Christmas break, and then left for a month, and then finished yesterday. Took a drawing I did earlier of an abstract bird, and decided to paint it. I am trying a technique where I paint a layer of color, and then mask off certain areas with masking tape, and then paint over it again, so I get nice clean lines. It's a little tedious, but not too bad. Would like to try some more detailed paintings in the future, but they would definitely have to be bigger, so I'm not cutting off tiny little strips of tape.
oh! and you can check out a "how to" video I made in ImageReady. I'm so proud of it! First tentative dabblings in stop-animation, I guess you could say. Same technique anyway. Could have fun with ImageReady.... I never think to use it, even though it's included with Photoshop.
Anyway, check out the video.
Where i paint. Don't know if this is really interesting.... but look mom, I'm using my drafting table!! :)

the fuel of saturday night painting... reeses pieces! mmmm..... candy......
storytelling extravaganza!
felt markerlarger imageLast evening of Carnival season at
the Gathering. Much storytelling all evening, it was excellent. I think towards the end all the stories started to blend together, but eh, s'all goooood. Funny stories, children's stories, original stories, descriptive geeky sci-fi, deep thoughts, all was good.
sunday sketch
felt marker larger imageSketch from church tonight. Talked about the story of Abraham & Sarah and their long-awaited son Issac. Discussed the story of God testing Abraham by telling him to sacrifice his son Issac. And then telling him to stop at the last second, and saying, by the way, that was a test and you passed! bit of a crazy story. and made for interesting discussion.
Faun Angel part 2
felt marker, painted in Photoshop, stock photographylarger imageta da! finished product after many evenings of painting! I think I need to get me one of those art pad things with the stylus. Painting with a mouse is not ideal.
Faun Angel part 1here's the next steps after cleaning up the raw tracing in Photoshop:

adding flat color in Photoshop.

gradient added onto wings to add more depth.

highlights and shadows painted in. Makes a big difference! For highlights and shadows, I add another layer of color and play with the opacity and layer blending modes (a trick I learned from my sis). I find you get better results and more control than with the dodge/burn method. But that is my personal preference.
larger imageAfter finishing up the color on the angel, I added in a background from
Shutterstock, and decided to paint in a "light", since it looked like the angel was looking at something in the distance.
and for all the Photoshop geeks out there....

Layers are your friends!
and now I shall go to bed. good night.

new and deproved wallpaper!

now in wallpaper!
downloada little story regarding the title of this post, particularly the "deproved" part:
when I was about 5 or 6, I started playing hockey. I'm pretty sure I did not know how to skate when I started, so I learned everything from scratch (well, I guess most kids wouldn't know how to skate when they are 5 or 6, so maybe that isn't such a big deal). Anyway, at the end of my first season, all the kids got medals, and on the back of the medals were personalized inscriptions. A phrase or word that described that kid's accomplishments during the season. Mine said "Most Improved Player". When my parent's asked me what my medal said, I proudly declared "Most Deproved!"
